As Hong Kong’s months-long protests escalate, migrant domestic workers have also been dodging tear gas and clashes in the city. Over the last four months of large scale and increasingly violent demonstrations, the areas where domestic workers frequently hang out on Sundays have frequently become battlegrounds for police and protesters.

The injury of Indonesian journalist Veby Mega Indah, who suffered permanent blindness after being shot in the face by a projectile some believe to be fired by police, also sparked anger within the migrant worker community. But they have remained silent, for fear of losing their jobs.
