Over the last few weeks, we've been chronicling a strange noise that has been plaguing Nikki's 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV LT.
Initially, she thought it might be the strut, but quickly decided after some research that it might be the sway bar -- a common problem with the Bolt EV that GM has issued a recall for in South Korea but has only issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for in the U.S.
Her local dealership Carr Chevrolet in Beaverton, Oregon ( agreed after some examination of the suspension. Her car, Art3mis, was showcasing all the classic signs detailed in the TSB for a Sway Bar issue. So it was replaced.
But it didn't fix the problem, and what followed was a week in the shop in which Art3mis has had pretty much every part of the suspension replaced after diagnostics with chassis diagnostic microphones highlighted some issues.
Although we first noticed the problem before Art3mis left her bumper-to-bumper 36,000-mile warranty, GM wanted us to pay for the repairs. But because of their original misdiagnosis, Carr Chevrolet carried out the work free of charge.
Content the squeak isn't related to any failing part, we'll be taking Art3mis on a 2,000-mile round-trip to Las Vegas for CES -- and dropping her back when we return.
As for the source of the noise? We'll admit it may only be noticeable because it's an EV -- and they're usually super quiet. But we'd also like to get to the bottom of it, just like any EV owner with a rattling/squeaking car.
Of course, we'll keep you posted...
