Engaging the Disengaged Student in Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics - NELLY BELINGA

Engaging the Disengaged Student in Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics - NELLY BELINGA Engaging the disengaged student requires creativity, self-efficacy, and clear expectations. As teachers become more and more aware of the need to foster choice, creativity, and communication in 21st-century learners, many challenges arise, notably; engaging the disengaged, challenging the distracted, and addressing modest basic skills while keeping up with the demands of an accelerated curriculum. In this workshop, participants will review the literature on teachers’ self-efficacy. Participants will also interact with three re-engagement activities in Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics. At the end of the session, participants will brainstorm more ideas for re-engagement and engagement of all learners in a mathematics class. Ultimately, participants will appreciate the fact that all students can learn, all students can achieve, and all students can excel and love mathematics.
