The Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Government of Egypt hosted an informal consultative ministerial meeting on women’s empowerment within the Islamic context in June 2019. The meeting was convened in Cairo with the participation of ministers and government representatives overseeing women’s issues in the OIC Member States. The meeting discussed a number of topics including the role of women in combating extremism, protection of women from all forms of violence, and the economic empowerment of women.
