Short Film | Kashmir: A Paradise in Conflict

Short Film | Kashmir: A Paradise in Conflict Earlier this week, Narendra Modi led BJP government abrogated a 70 years old constitutional provision – Article 370 and 35A. Under Article 370, the state of Jammu and Kashmir had a special status. This means that other than defence, foreign affairs, finance, and communications, all other affairs were directly under the state government.

This provision came into being after the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Hari Singh, signed an Instrument of Accession with India's Jawaharlal Nehru after India's independence in 1947. This document became an instrument for Jammu and Kashmir to become a part of India.

BJP's move to render Article 370 ineffective came after Kashmir was put under curfew, major political leaders from local political parties of J&K were put under house arrest, more than 10,000 paramilitary forces were deployed in the region and internet, satellite TV and phone connections were disbanded.

The UN has said that this move has led to gross human rights violations in the state.

In light of this political turmoil, an artist shares his experience of Kashmir in this short film.
