The main riff in a Metallica song usually apears after intro and before verse, rarer as intro or verse/chorus, and it's normally the song's catchiest riff. Beginner guitarists want to learn the main riffs first - at least I did - and the video's purpose is to help them. Part 1 includes studio Metallica albums released since 1996, in the following order: Hardwired to Self-Destruct, Death Magnetic, St Anger, Reload, Load. The rest of albums go next, EPs and extras - in part 3. I might make a PDF of all the riffs, depends on how you need it, so stay tuned friends!
Commentary of what da heck's in the video:
1) Notes marked as (n) mean either of what follows: optional, vague, alternating, played by 2nd guitar, stretches from previous bar:
2) E standard is the default tuning, other are noted; missing DEVIL'S DANCE (D STANDARD):
3) Buff arm means that the riff is imho the strongest on the album; fish in glasses - bass leads, guitar is secondary (so deal with it)
4) Some riffs change throughout the songs, tons of alternations occur, thus only one variation is shown. Get the rest by ear - it's your homework.
