Tight security measures were set up in the French coastal town of Biarritz on Thursday as it gears up to host the G7 summit this weekend.

Reports speak of 13,200 troops being deployed in the resort town with special measures around the Hotel Du Palais area, the summit's venue.

Protests have been banned in Biarritz as well as the neighbouring towns of Anglet and Bayonne. While access to the town is expected to be burdensome as train stations and Biarritz airport will be closed throughout the summit.

The summit will run from August 24 to August 26, and will see the participation of European Council President Donald Tusk and the leaders of the G7 member nations, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US.
