Bob Collymore (Robert William Collymore) was a Guyanese-born British businessman based in Kenya. He was the chief executive officer of Safaricom, a multinational telecommunications company based in Kenya. He was also a member of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board In 2012 he was awarded the Moran of the Burning Spear by the President of Kenya. Bob died on July 1, 2019, at his home from cancer, acute myeloid leukemia.
During an interview, Bob revealed that he began earning money at the age of 12 by making art pieces from plasticine moulds sent to him by his mother who at the time was living in the UK while Bob lived in Guyana with his grandmother. He added that he also used to make little brooches from coconut shells.

There no details about Bob Collymore’s first wife but he once revealed during an interview that the first marriage was a mistake as he was very young – in his 20’s.
“The first marriage was a mistake for sure. I was too young — in my 20s.”
He also revealed that he got married for the second time and also divorced and unlike the first marriage, he said it wasn’t a mistake, but the mistake is how the marriage was conducted.
When asked during an interview with Daily Nation her revealed he had been married thrice and divorced twice;
“Three times! but divorced twice. Each time [I marry] it’s got better. Each time the match has been better. There are stuff I couldn’t have done better for sure. And is blame which I have to take.
Hopefully, I have learnt from some of it. What keeps me coming back? I think I never set out to remarry, I think I just meet someone who, we lived together for a while before we got married, so someone who you think I can spend the rest of my life with because we care for each other. The first marriage was a mistake for sure. I was too young — in my 20s. The second one was not a mistake, what was a mistake was how we conducted it.”

Bob began his career as a junior underwriter and as a train announcer after he nissed the chance to join the University. He later held various management roles at British Telcom between January 1978 and July 1994. He later joined Cellnet in July 1994 as the handset strategy manager a position he held until July 1995.

In September 2011 Bob Collymore was appointed as the CEO of Safaricom. During his stay in Safaricom, he oversaw the launch of new products that contributed significantly to the firm’s revenues such as newly launched overdraft facility Fuliza. He was the longest-serving CEO in Safaricom. In 2017 shareholders voted to extend his contract with an additional two years after his tenure expired. His term was to expire in August 2020.
