Kidnapped: the Chinese parents desperately searching for missing children

While China has no official national statistics on the number of missing children in the country, Baobeihuijia, the biggest non-governmental organisation dealing with such cases has received nearly 36,000 reports since 1978. It is feared that the actual number of missing children in China may be much higher.Many of the young people who go missing are believed to have been kidnapped and sold to childless couples. Officials from Baobeihuijia or “Baby Come Home” say three decades of a one-child policy in China, combined with a traditional preference for sons in Chinese families, are contributing factors.The South China Morning Post spoke with two parents who, while spending decades searching for their missing sons, have managed to help other families locate and be reunited with their abducted children.
