For the last 16 years, Don Mansfield has worked with NewDay Services, a faith-based, non-profit organization that seeks to reduce the impact of divorce on children. He and others with him provides a variety of services to help divorcing parents reconcile where possible, or co-parent effectively when they don't. In this video, we talked briefly how society ignores the fact that divorce scars children. The idea that "children are resilient" is, for most children, a lie. It is not true. Children are broken and shattered, experience loss, are often confused and afraid. At the time they need the most love and comfort and help, they often are left alone to navigate a life of loss and hurt.
When a child loses a mother or father to an accident or illness, or if he or she has a mother or father killed in battle, we consider these things to be tragedies. Yet if a child has his or her world shattered by divorce, we too often say nothing. Even worse, we don't get in the faces of the parents and tell them that in many cases they are acting selfishly and they are causing damage to their children.
Marriage is for children.
Divorce is for adults - or often simply one adult.
