Grieving friends and colleagues of tragic police officer Gordon Gibson have rallied to help his devastated family and raised an incredible £12,000 in less than 24 hours. Gordon, who was a detective constable, was found dead in Greenock police station last Saturday. Colleagues rushed to his aid but he was unable to be saved. The 42-year-old was off duty at the time of the incident and his death has left his family and friends reeling from shock. Married Gordon leaves behind wife, Laura, and two young children , aged seven and three, and colleagues wanted to do something to ease their burden. A source said: “This is real tragedy for everyone concerned and obviously all of his colleagues are upset at what has happened. “It’s an awful thing to happen and Gordon was extremely popular and well known. We all wanted to do something for his family. It’s the worst thing that could happen to a young family especially at this time of the year.” Gordon, who joined the former Strathclyde police in 2001, was a drug unit officer before joining Police Scotland’s CID unit. Friend Damian Kane, who set up the JustGiving page, said: “Gordon brought happiness to all who knew him with his cheeky and mischievous sense of humour, his infectious laugh and larger than life personality. "He is well known as a humble yet fearless officer who was always the one other cops relied upon should they find themselves in jeopardy. “Gordon will be missed by all who knew him.” Detective Superintendent Mark Bell of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division said: “We can sadly confirm that a serving officer died at Greenock Police Station on Saturday, December 21, 2019. “Enquiries remain ongoing, but the 42-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious. “Support is being provided to family, and his colleagues, at this incredibly difficult time and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.” To donate click here .
