A man of rare talent and deep compassion for his community – in Carte Blanche’s search for exceptional South Africans this December we meet architect and PhD fellow Kevin Kimwelle who is re-imagining his hometown of Port Elizabeth one design idea at a time. Where some might see a landscape strewn with waste and pollution, and no resources to fix the problem, Kimwelle upcycles that same waste to make innovative and robust building materials for the construction of much-needed buildings in his neighborhood.
