Taking the bins out is the least favourite chore of many. But now a new robot could be lending a hand and an arm to sort out the rubbish.

ABB Robotics' latest model made its debut at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai on Tuesday, showcasing its ability to identify and sort the waste into four categories.

Yufei Lu, Researcher of ABB Future Lab, said, "after locating the position of the garbage in the picture, the system will automatically assign items to two robotic arms."

The robot has a 94 per cent accuracy rate and can control up to 40 arms simultaneously, according to manufacturers.

ABB have also developed a mobile autonomous laboratory designed to support monotonous tasks including medicine preparation and picking up and sorting test tubes.
