Timing Was Wrong
Nissan introduced Datsun at a time when it was saying goodbye to Hover Automotive India, which forced the company to delay delivery and immediately it created a negative impact as waiting period forced customers to look, competitors, the lost the initial buzz and then it is an uphill task, which they didn’t won
2. Soon came Global NCAP
Datsun Go performed really bad in the NCAP test soon and this created even more negative impression among customers that the models are unsafe, while most of the other manufacturers responded with safety features and other things but Datsun didn’t, which further helped sales to decline
3. Lack of all new products
If we look at the models in Datsun brand, all models are cross badged from Nissan as Go is basically Micra while the Redigo is Kwid. Both models failed to bring something new to the market. Indian automotive sector is highly competitive especially in the entry-level segment and they took an easy route, but it backfired
4. Too much cost-cutting
One of the things you will feel when you sit inside any Datsun model is the cost-cutting, which is too much and most of the customers prefer something more upmarket even Toyota learned this lesson on the hard way with Etios, they tried to rectify it with facelift model but the news of Datsun leaving India will simply kill the volume
5. 6 years is not enough
Nissan is simply not looking ahead like 6 years for a new company like Datsun to make ground in India is impossible especially with a cross badged line up. If they had given some more time and introduced some new models then it would have survived, the upcoming compact MPV was really promising also Carlos Gosh issue is also another reason for this quick move as he is the one who is behind the introduced of Datsun brand again
Future
All Datsun models will be introduced again in India as Nissan products once the current life span ends, will this work for Nissan lets see
