Using the BK Fusion Ultrasound System For Guiding Prostate Biopsies: Dr. Scott Sweazy

Dr. Scott Sweazy is a board-certified practicing urologist and member of Carolina Urology Partners. In this video, Dr. Sweazy discusses the benefits of incorporating bkFusion technology from BK Ultrasound in to his practice. Prostate cancer is the most common occurring malignancy among men in the United States and it is the number two cause of cancer deaths among men in the United States. When Dr. Sweazy first saw bkFusion , he was amazed by the quality of the ultrasound imaging and the system integration that has both the ultrasound imaging along with the MRI Fusion Biopsy imaging in one unit. The process of undergoing a multi-parametric MRI Fusion Biopsy starts with the patient getting a multi-parametric MRI. Carolina Urology Partners uses a HIPPA compliant cloud-based downloading system to import the studies into the bkFusion system. According to Dr. Sweazy, one of the good things with bkFusion is Predictive Fusion, which already imports a contoured prostate MRI in to the system. You no longer have to calibrate two separate systems, perform a 3D sweep, or contour the prostate. It’s all integrated into the bkFusion platform. The workflow for bkFusion biopsy is very similar to the standard systematic biopsy. The preparation is the same, patient positioning is the same, and insertion of the probe is the same.
