Measles Virotherapy and Opposition to Vaccination

Measles Virotherapy and Opposition to Vaccination Dr. Stephen Russell, the Richard O. Jacobson Professor of Molecular Medicine and Consultant in Hematology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, reviews his position paper appearing in the September 2019 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, authored in response to a teacher who noted his previous research was being used as a reason some parents were choosing not to vaccinate their children against the measles virus. Dr. Russell noted that over 100,000 children died from measles in 2017, and that it is imperative that children be vaccinated against the disease, and in fact being immunized will prove beneficial in aiding the success of virotherapy in treating cancer. His colleague, Dr. Roberto Cattaneo, also offers this video on measles recently produced by the "Seeker" digital publisher The video was made in his lab and explains why measles is so contagious, why vaccination is so important, and that measles is now used as an oncolytic virus.
