Labour backs abolishing private schools in conference vote

Labour backs abolishing private schools in conference vote For years it's been a rallying cry on the left of British politics. Now it has become Labour Party policy.

At the next general election, Labour's manifesto will include a commitment to effectively abolish private schools.

Delegates at the party's conference in Brighton cheered after it was agreed that independent schools should be integrated into the state sector.

But Conservatives criticised the move and the body that represents private education called it an act of "national self-harm".

From Brighton, Sky's political correspondent Lewis Goodall reports.
