Lawn Care Tip - Avoid doing these things when it's windy!

Today we attempt to explain why it’s important to NOT spray or undertake some particular lawn care activities in the wind. While trying not to get blown away!

Spraying herbicides…
First of all, and most importantly is to avoid spraying any chemical herbicides on your lawn during wind. Even the slightest breeze will be enough to cause spray drift which is not only a waste of chemical and your money, but bad for the surrounding environment.

Spreading or spraying fertilisers…
In order to get even application, it is important your fertiliser spreads across the area evenly and once on the ground doesn’t get blown away before it is able to go deep into the soil profile.

Watering your lawn…
Wind dries things out very quickly and makes it almost impossible to keep the water from your irrigation or hose falling where it is intended. Make sure you have turned off your irrigation if it is on a pre-set timer and obviously avoid hand watering unless you want to end up drenched as well and waste a whole heap of water at the same time. After a few windy days, if it has calmed down, this can be a good time to re-hydrate your lawn with a nice deep soaking. (If water restrictions permit)

So, if it is windy, maybe just stick to what wind is good for and go fly a kite instead.
