JET Programme ALT: Guide for Elementary Schools

JET Programme ALT: Guide for Elementary Schools - Perhaps it is your first time teaching elementary school and you were wondering how to teach English for the first time to small children.
- Or perhaps you are already an ALT and you wanted to compare your practice and teaching philosophy compared to another ALT.
- Or maybe you are just curious how English is taught in Japan in elementary schools.

If any of the above speak to you, then this is the video for you. My name is Andrew Saitoh and I have been an elementary school ALT in Sendai City for the past two years and let me share my experiences with you.

This school is located to the west of the middle of Sendai city and was built approximately ten years ago. Most elementary schools in Japan may not look like this but my hope is that it provides you with some information about the general working environment and some techniques to be the best elementary school ALT that you can be.

Note, that yes I accidentally reversed the “turn left” and “turn right” commands when demonstrating the movement activity (it was over 30 degrees that day and my last day at this school!)

This video is devoted to all the wonderful teachers and students that I have met in the first two years as an ALT in Sendai. It was a pleasure and honor teaching and learning alongside you. Thank you for making Sendai feel like a second home. Let's meet again one day.
