Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Gao Feng praised the latest round of the trade talks with US, speaking during a press conference held in Beijing on Thursday.

"The 12th round of China-US high-level economic and trade consultations has just been successfully held in Shanghai. The two sides have agreed to hold the next round of high-level consultations in the United States in September," said Gao Feng.

The statement came following a meeting between US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, US President Donald Trump's administration top trade negotiator Robert E. Lighthizer and Chinese officials on Wednesday.

The spokesperson added that China will increase agricultural imports from the US and that the latter will "create favourable conditions" for that.

"We hope that the US can truly implement the relevant commitments as soon as possible, stop the wrong practices of using state power to suppress Chinese enterprises," added Gao Feng.

The US and China have been involved in a trade war, with the Trump administration imposing tariffs on billions of dollars' worth of Chinese goods and Beijing retaliating in the same manner.
