Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, repeatedly mentioned impeachment as one of the processes in which the “Constitution requires something other than the justice system to accuse a president of wrongdoing” in her questioning of former special counsel Robert Mueller during his July 24 testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. “We all have a vital role for holding this president accountable for his actions,” Escobar said, adding, “it’s clear that anyone else would have been prosecuted.” Mueller, who led an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible ties to President Donald Trump’s campaign, agreed to appear before Congress, but warned he would not go beyond what was already documented in his final report.
