To see if you have a valid case.
Your attorney THINKS you might have a good case.
He THINKS it could be a viable case.
But he's not sure.
In New York, he HAS TO have a medical expert review your records to determine if you have a good case.
A medical expert has to confirm that your doctor was careless.
He has to confirm that the wrongdoing caused you injury.
He also has to confirm that your injury is significant and/or permanent.
If your expert is unable to confirm each of those things, then you cannot start a lawsuit.
The attorney will be unable to help you and you'll have to hire another attorney to see if they would be willing to investigate.

He spends months reviewing your records.
