Ball quipped that Qerim could “switch gears with me anytime,” and later attempted to defend himself by stating that Qerim’s “mind is in the gutter” if she were to be offended by the comments.
ESPN publicly condemned Ball’s comments as “completely inappropriate,” and it was later reported by The Athletic that the company would not be featuring Ball as a guest on its programming moving forward.
Qerim, of all people, faced backlash on social media from viewers who accused her of overreacting to Ball’s comments, and having him banned from ESPN. Qerim’s husband, ESPN analyst Jalen Rose, addressed the incident during an Instagram live story, and said that both he and Qerim had nothing to do with ESPN’s response.
