FULL COVERAGE: BIZARRE armed suspect standoff involving fire, fireworks in San Gabriel, CA San Gabriel police are on scene of a barricaded suspect and standoff in the area of Saxon Avenue and Brighton Street Thursday afternoon.

The standoff incident began at about 12:30 p.m. Police believe the suspect is armed. They have closed off the immediate area. A gunfire exchange occurred between the suspect and officers turning this incident into an officer-involved shooting.

The public is asked to avoid the area. The westbound 10 freeway has been shut down from San Gabriel Boulevard to Del Mar due to police activity. It's unknown when it will reopen but drivers should expect major delays and are advised to take detours.

Police say the incident began when officers were sent to investigate a family dispute report. Shots were fired and the suspect retreated inside the home. No injuries have been reported. A SWAT team from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is on scene to assist with the situation.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., smoke and flames from a fire were seen coming out from the home where the suspect was holed up. Flames soon spread to nearby trees as firefighters began focusing efforts to put out the fire.

One individual was seen running out from the back of the burning home and made his way into a home next door.

Aerial footage from SkyFOX showed SWAT team members loading residents from the home next door into the Bearcat to be evacuated from the area.
