A/Prof Leonie Watterson is a specialist anaesthetist, based at Royal North Shore Hospital, with appointments at Prince of Wales Hospital and Royal Hospital for Women. Since 2000, she has been Head of Department of the Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, RNSH. In this role, she leads a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and nonclinical staff and has a key role in the recruitment of registrars onto the simulation fellowship program.

Leonie has post graduate qualifications in education, organisational coaching and leadership and is currently completing a post graduate diploma in conflict resolution. She has a special interest in professional skills and communication and is the lead author of several training courses addressing doctors’ communication skills including “Speak-Up”, Conversations in Clinical Supervision (CSS) and Conversations in Medical Management courses. Collectively these programs address communication relevant to performance appraisal, assertiveness and workplace bullying. Leonie contributes to the NSW Medical Council’s Performance Assessment Program and a number of committees to promote good professional practice. she is a certified organisational coach and currently chairs the nascent “Coaching for Doctors” network.
