Green Party candidate Peter Banks challenges County Council plans to diminish Essex Libraries

Green Party candidate Peter Banks challenges County Council plans to diminish Essex Libraries Consultation has recently finished regarding the Conservative held Essex County Council's (ECC) plans to close many libraries and downgrade many more to run by volunteers in local parish premises. ECC gave no advance notice and have used spurious data to form their opinions. Furthermore they clearly do not assign appropriate value to books and libraries.

West Mersea Library is under threat in an ECC derived status of being a Tier 3 library. Those rated as Tier 4 are to close imminently with no alternative provision given. Tier 1 are main libraries and Tier 2 will be given a reprise but even they are under longer term threat.
