Frederic Thenault, CEO of Syneidis, presents another brief episode of cybersecurity news.

Are you still using email to send your confidential messages and important documents? Do you use Outlook? πŸ“§ In this case, some bad news for you…

Last weekend, Microsoft notified its users of a breach that compromised Outlook account information for three months until March! As usual, the public and the affected users are finding out after the fact.

What were malicious hackers able to get? They gained access to e-mail addresses, folder names, the subject lines of their e-mails, and the list of other e-mail addresses that the user communicated with. And yet, Microsoft initially claimed to TechCrunch that at least the hackers hadn’t been able to gain access to “the content of any e-mails nor the attachments.”

But the reality was even more serious, Microsoft had to admit that for some of the users, hackers also gained access to the text of their email messages and attachments. 😱

With this type of incident, it is clear that emails are NOT a secure way of communicating. Even large email providers such a Microsoft can be victims.

So a sound recommendation is to look for better tools to ensure that our important information does not reach the hands of unwanted people…

Remember to be safe online and offline, and see you soon.
